Mason, VA – Fatal Pedestrian Crash Reported near Columbia Pike & Powell Ln

Mason, VA (July 9, 2023) – A pedestrian crash reported in the Mason area claimed the life of 26-year-old Luis Fernando Jimenez Rodriguez.

At around 2:13 a.m. on July 8, the Mason Police Department and firefighters were called to the scene of a crash that occurred on Columbia Pike.

Detective reports indicate that a 2010 BMW was traveling east along Columbia Pike when it struck a pedestrian near Powell Lane. The vehicle fled the scene of the accident without stopping.

Police were able to locate the vehicle, which was driven by 33-year-old Benjamin Lopez Encinas. The driver was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence.

The pedestrian, identified as Jimenez Rodriguez, was fatally injured in the crash.

At this time, the Mason Police District- Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
