Mattituck, NY (May 16, 2023) – A three-car rollover crash in Mattituck on Mother’s Day, May 14th, left one person seriously injured, according to local fire officials.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Sound Avenue in front of Harbes Farm, and first responders from the Mattituck Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, the firefighters discovered that three vehicles were involved in the collision, with one of them having rolled onto its roof. The occupant of that vehicle was found unconscious, having sustained serious injuries.
There were plans to airlift the injured person to the hospital, but due to the severity of their injuries, the decision was made to transport them by ground to Peconic Bay Medical Center.
The occupants of the other two vehicles escaped unharmed and declined medical assistance.
To ensure public safety, the Fire Department, together with the Riverhead Police Department, closed down westbound traffic at Aldrich Lane and eastbound traffic at Herricks Lane.
Southold Police have taken over the investigation into the accident, and more details will be shared as they become available.
