Medina, OH (October 24, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a bicyclist in Lafayette Township, Medina County. The incident took place just after 4:30 p.m. along State Route 162, near Deerview Lane.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the preliminary investigation indicated that 72-year-old John McCandlish was riding his bicycle on a bike trail in Buckeye Woods Park. As he attempted to cross State Route 162, he was struck by a 2020 Yamaha YZR-R3 motorcycle. Unfortunately, McCandlish was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old woman from Medina, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Medina Hospital for treatment. Reports confirm that she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
