Fire Truck Accidents in Melrose

Melrose, NY - Fire Truck Accident Injures Six on E 160th St

Luckily, New York fire truck accidents are not very common. For reasons that should be fairly obvious, a firefighter driving a fire engine on its way to an emergency is allowed to disregard certain stipulations of Vehicle and Traffic Law, given that its sirens and lights are on. The driver is allowed to drive against traffic, to surpass the speed limit, to move through a red light, and to park, stop, or stand anyplace it deems necessary.

A collision that is caused by the driver of a fire engine partaking in one of these behaviors is only actionable in the event that the driver behaved carelessly. It isn’t enough to prove that the driver behaved negligently. If the collision occurred as the result of something else, however, such as the driver not watching the road, then the ordinary laws of negligence would apply.

Being seriously injured in an accident of any kind can be a very disruptive, frightening, confusing, and overwhelming time in a person’s life. Make sure that if you are injured in an accident that was not your fault that you don’t have to fight the insurance companies on your own. You need a skilled injury attorney to be your advocate when handling the insurance companies to ensure that you receive the full and fair compensation you are entitled to for your New York injury accident.
