Merced County, CA (March 18, 2025) – Abraham Bustos Guzman, 28, of Merced, was tragically killed in a multi-vehicle crash while assisting others early Sunday morning, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
The accident occurred at around 4:10 a.m. on Highway 99, just north of Westside Boulevard. Reports indicate that Sincere Collins, 22, of Atwater, was driving a GMC Acadia southbound when he lost control and crashed into a guardrail, coming to a stop in the roadway.
Guzman, who was passing through the area, pulled over to offer assistance to those in the Acadia. Shortly after, a Honda Civic traveling in the left lane collided with the disabled SUV, causing the Acadia to strike Guzman.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Guzman was pronounced deceased due to his injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic, identified as 23-year-old Yessica Partida of Merced, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Memorial Medical Center. Authorities later arrested her on suspicion of DUI.
Two passengers in the Acadia suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to Memorial Medical Center and Doctors Medical Center for treatment.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
