Monticello Township, MN (February 7, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision involving two semis and two passenger vehicles resulted in one person being injured on eastbound Interstate 94 at Milepost 197 in Wright County on Thursday morning.
The crash occurred around 8:48 a.m. as all vehicles were traveling eastbound on I-94 when they collided due to hazardous road conditions caused by snow and ice. The collision involved a 2013 Toyota RAV4, a 2016 Kia Rio, a 1995 Construct T600 semi, and a 2016 Freightliner semi.
The driver of the Toyota RAV4, 40-year-old Oluwasegun Paul David of Monticello, MN, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maple Grove North Memorial Hospital for treatment. His vehicle's airbags deployed, and he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The other drivers involved in the collision were identified as 35-year-old Jon Richard Becker of Saint Cloud, MN (Kia Rio), 40-year-old Heather Machelle Oliver of Pine City, MN (Construct T600 semi), and 38-year-old Gustoi Serghei of Plainfield, IL (Freightliner semi). None of these drivers sustained injuries, and all were confirmed to be wearing seatbelts. Authorities also confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Monticello Fire Department and Centra Care Ambulance assisted at the scene. The crash caused delays on I-94 while emergency crews cleared the scene and investigated the circumstances leading to the accident. The investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with Oluwasegun Paul David, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Minnesota
Minnesota’s winter weather often creates hazardous driving conditions, particularly on major highways like I-94 in Wright County. Snow and ice can significantly reduce traction, making it difficult for drivers to maintain control, especially in high-traffic areas or when traveling at highway speeds. Multi-vehicle collisions are common in these conditions as one accident can quickly lead to a chain reaction of crashes.
In 2023, Minnesota reported thousands of winter-related vehicle accidents, with many resulting in injuries or fatalities. Semi-trucks, due to their size and weight, pose additional risks in poor weather conditions as they require longer stopping distances and are more difficult to maneuver. Even with proper precautions, drivers may struggle to navigate safely on icy roads.
If you are involved in a winter-related accident, it’s crucial to seek medical attention immediately, even if injuries are not initially apparent. Documenting the scene, collecting witness statements, and filing an official report with law enforcement are essential steps to protect your legal rights. In Minnesota, individuals injured in accidents due to another driver’s negligence or hazardous road conditions may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other related damages.
