Mount Sinai, NY – Rodwin Allicock Buried Alive While Working in Open Grave

Mount Sinai, NY (February 27, 2021) – A New York cemetery worker died when he was buried alive inside of an open grave on Thursday, February 25th.

The deadly interment took place at about 8:30 a.m. in Mount Sinai’s Washington Memorial Park.

Suffolk County police reported that 42-year-old Rodwin Allicock was working at the bottom of a grave when the surrounding ground gave out and collapsed in on him. His colleagues tried to dig him out but were unable to do so.

Allicock was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the public works department, Suffolk County emergency services, emergency workers from the Hagerman Fire Department, Middle Island Fire Department, Setauket Fire Department, and Selden Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene. 

Officials stated that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was immediately notified and an investigation is pending.
