Mount Vernon, NY (May 18, 2023) – On Thursday, May 18, around 1:30 p.m., detectives in Mount Vernon attempted to pull over a vehicle wanted in connection with a hit-and-run incident. The driver, 26-year-old Demarco Royal-King from the Bronx, had other plans. Ignoring the police, he sped away, triggering a short but intense chase.
The pursuit concluded abruptly at the intersection of Thirteenth Avenue and West First Street, where Royal-King crashed into another motorist. The collision caused significant damage to both vehicles and left the innocent driver with injuries. Thankfully, medical technicians evaluated the victim on-site and determined that further medical attention was unnecessary.
Following the crash, officers promptly apprehended Royal-King. During a search of his vehicle, law enforcement discovered a loaded handgun, raising additional concerns about his intentions. Consequently, Royal-King faces multiple charges, including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawfully fleeing from the police, leaving the scene of an accident, and various other violations of vehicle and traffic laws.
Authorities promptly transferred Royal-King to the Mount Vernon City Jail, where he remains in custody pending his upcoming arraignment in Mount Vernon City Court.
Our thoughts go out to the innocent victim of this collision, and we wish them a swift recovery.
