Murphys, CA (July 22, 2023) – A 35-year-old man died in Murphys after a head-on collision on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Around 3:28 p.m., he drove a 2003 Toyota Camry westbound on Highway 4.

The Camry veered off the highway onto the north shoulder, then back into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with Louis Sweet’s 2006 Toyota Tundra.

The Camry driver suffered fatal injuries, and his two passengers were taken to Modesto Memorial Hospital.

Sweet sustained moderate injuries and his three juvenile passengers had minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol mentioned fatigue or distracted driving as potential factors, ruling out alcohol or drugs.

The investigation is still ongoing.
