Myakka, FL (December 16, 2024) – Two people tragically lost their lives following a head-on collision on State Rd 70 in Myakka on Saturday night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 31-year-old Bradenton man attempted to pass westbound traffic when he lost control of his vehicle, crossing over the center line and colliding with an eastbound pickup truck.
Emergency responders from Myakka Fire and Rescue arrived promptly at the scene, where they found the driver of the pickup truck, a 47-year-old Arcadia man, and a passenger in the sport utility vehicle, a 56-year-old Bradenton man, both deceased. Medics and fire crews worked tirelessly to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision.
The 31-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, while the other two passengers in the SUV, both from Bradenton, sustained minor injuries. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
