Sodus, NY (August 12, 2019) – At around 9:29 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, New York State Police were called to the scene of a serious motorcycle accident. The crash involved two motorcycles operated by off-duty troopers on State Route 104 in the town of Sodus.
Authorities stated that both motorcyclists were heading east near Redman Road when the lead motorcycle, operated by Sgt. Steven Mowers slowed down. Trooper Michael Burdett, operating the second motorcycle, was unable to slow down and subsequently struck Mowers.
Burdett was promptly airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy Flight. Reports indicate that he was seriously injured in the accident. Mowers was taken to the same hospital with a leg injury. Mowers has since been released. Burdett remains in serious but stable condition.
Our thoughts are with the injured officers and their families at this time. We hope for their full recoveries.
