Neptune Township, NJ (December 11, 2024) – A tragic pedestrian accident occurred on Route 66 in Neptune Township on Tuesday night, leaving one woman dead and a man injured. The incident took place around 7:35 p.m. when a westbound van struck the two pedestrians, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities, succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital. The man, also a pedestrian, was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The driver of the van stopped immediately following the crash, and no charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
Neptune Township police closed a section of Route 66 between Jumping Brook Rd and Green Grove Rd for several hours as they investigated the incident. This fatal crash marks the third such incident in Monmouth County in just as many days. A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 36 in Hazlet on Sunday, and another fatal crash occurred in Freehold Township on Monday night, involving a three-vehicle collision.
