New Bern, NC ( July 20, 2023) – A tragic bicycle accident occurred, resulting in the fatality of a 17-year-old bicyclist.
According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the teenager was riding his bike on a U.S. Highway 17 exit ramp when hit by a pickup truck.
The impact of the crash caused the cyclist to be thrown over the bridge’s railing and into the Neuse River in Craven County.
First responders from multiple agencies were called to the scene on July 18th, 2023, and they conducted an extensive search for the missing bicyclist using boats, sonar technology, and a helicopter.
The body of the teenager, identified as Trace Nobles of New Bern, was found in the water near the bridge.
The pickup truck driver stopped after the accident.
The investigation into the early-morning accident is ongoing, and further details have not been released.
