New Madrid, MO (January 31, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to the scene of a serious crash on Interstate 55 Northbound at mile marker 39.6 late Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. and involved a 2023 Ford Explorer and a 2024 Jeep Compass. According to authorities, the driver of the Ford Explorer struck the rear of the Jeep Compass, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway. The Ford overturned and collided with a tree, while the Jeep struck the MODOT cable barrier on the left side of the highway.
Paramedics transported the 39-year-old male driver of the Ford Explorer to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment of moderate injuries. The 45-year-old female driver of the Jeep Compass was assessed on the scene but did not require immediate hospitalization. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were removed by Sprouse Towing.
