New Madrid, MO (October 22, 2024) – A serious vehicle collision occurred on October 22, 2024, at approximately 5:50 AM at the intersection of US Highway 60 and Highway FF, three miles west of Sikeston. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to assist those involved in the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that the crash involved two vehicles: a 2017 Nissan Altima and a 2023 Ram 2500 van. The accident occurred when the driver of the Nissan Altima, identified as 73-year-old James Evans from Morehouse, pulled into the path of the westbound Ram van, which was driven by 65-year-old Curtis Amos from Scott City. The impact resulted in both vehicles being deemed total losses and subsequently towed from the scene by JSH Towing.
Following the collision, both drivers sustained injuries. James Evans was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident and was transported by EMS to St. Francis Hospital for medical evaluation. Curtis Amos, who was wearing his seatbelt, also sustained injuries and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for further treatment. Additionally, a 34-year-old male occupant in the Ram van, Wesley Rhymers from Jackson, was also taken to the hospital with injuries.
