Albuquerque, NM (August 19, 2020) – According to the Albuquerque Police Department, two people died after a multi-vehicle accident on Monday morning, August 17th. The fatal crash was reported at an unspecified time during the early morning hours on Interstate 25 at Sunport Boulevard.

Authorities say a total of three vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of the Pan American Freeway. Due to the impact of the crash, one person was ejected from one of the vehicles, and a backseat passenger in one of the other vehicles was trapped in the wreckage. Crews with the Bernalillo County Fire Department arrived at the scene where they worked to free the pinned passenger. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle with the trapped passenger was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital with severe injuries. There has been no update on that victim’s condition. The operator of the third vehicle was unharmed in the incident.

At this time, Investigators with the APD are working to establish the cause of this incident.
