Chaves Co, NM (January 5, 2021) – Authorities have now released the identity of a man who was killed in a motor vehicle accident that took place on Saturday night, January 2nd. The fatal crash occurred at around 5:30 p.m. near the town of Roswell in Chaves County.
According to law enforcement, a man now identified as Gilardo Padilla, 74, of Dexter, was riding as a passenger in a 2006 Chrysler van when the vehicle was struck by a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The Chrysler was making a turn onto West Orchard Park Road from US-285 at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene where they transported Padilla and the driver of the Chrysler, identified only as a 50-year-old woman, to a local hospital. Padilla was pronounced deceased a short time later. The driver of the Cherokee was unharmed in the collision.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the events that led to this incident.
