Hondo, NM – Nicholas E Woods Killed in Motorcycle Crash with Vehicle on US-380

Hondo, NM (September 8, 2020) – A head-on collision claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Saturday afternoon, September 5th, on U.S. 380/U.S. 70, in the vicinity of mile marker 106 in Hondo.

Officers with the NMSP say that a woman now identified as Charity Autumn Swanner was driving eastbound in a 2004 Dodge Durango when the vehicle left the roadway around 12:07 p.m. Swanner then brought the vehicle back onto the road and crossed the center line where she struck a westbound 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle head-on.

Crews arrived at the scene and the operator of the motorcycle, now identified as 49-year-old Nicholas E. Woods, of Hobbs, was pronounced deceased. Swanner was cited for careless driving but there has been no word on any other charges at this time.

An investigation into the cause of this accident remains ongoing.
