Gates, NY (September 26, 2020) – A 43-year-old man was involved in a car accident on Wednesday, September 23rd that caused the death of two people in the town of Gates.
According to police reports, Anthony Vandoren, a resident of Rochester, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, aggravated vehicular homicide, and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Officers stated that a Ford F-150 pick-up truck driven by Vandoren was traveling along Spencerport Road at about 11:00 a.m. when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, the pick-up suddenly veered out of its lane and collided with a Chevrolet Trax SUV.
Two occupants of the SUV, Dianne Donnelly, 67, and William Lawson, 81, both residents of Hamlin, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Vandoren was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries that were classified as non-life-threatening.
Police said that the vehicle Vandoren was driving at the time of the accident was owned by UA Maintenance LLC. The owner has since been charged with multiple Department of Transportation violations, including facilitating the unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
Additionally, Vandoren was driving on a suspended New York driver’s license. He was also in possession of “multiple single-use packages of suspected heroin/fentanyl,” according to local law enforcement officers.
