Hannibal, NY (September 19, 2020) – A man from Fulton was arrested on Saturday, September 19th after he struck two people with his pick-up truck, critically injuring one and killing another. He then fled the scene.
Based on a report from the New York State Police, troopers reported to State Route 176 in the town of Hannibal at about 12:30 a.m., after receiving reports of a car striking a pedestrian.
Upon conducting an initial investigation, officers stated that a Dodge Ram pick-up truck driven by Christopher Rogers was heading along State Route 176 when it collided with two pedestrians who were walking along the side of the roadway.
After striking both pedestrians, Rogers left the scene of the accident.
First responders pronounced Kaydence Nichols, 16, a resident of Hannibal, dead at the scene.
Riley Trumble, 17, also from Hannibal, sustained critical injuries. He was transported via ambulance to Upstate Hospital. His current condition is listed as critical.
Police said that a third person was with Trumble and Nichols when the accident occurred, but they were unharmed.
After fleeing the crash site, the driver, Christopher Rodgers, 29, a resident of Fulton, was found and by State Police with help from the Fulton Police Department and placed under arrest.
Rogers was ultimately charged with 2nd-degree vehicular assault, 2nd-degree vehicular manslaughter, fleeing the scene of a deadly car accident, and driving under the influence.
