Queens, NY (September 06, 2020) – A man from Long Island died on Saturday, September 5th when his motorcycle collided with a New York Police patrol car that stopped on the Belt Parkway.

An officer was attempting to aid a stranded motorist and stopped his vehicle in the left lane of traffic on the parkway at the Cross Bay Boulevard exit in Ozone Park at around 1:00 a.m.

Moments later, Matthew Hester, 41, a resident of Hempstead, crashed into the rear-end of the patrol car. The force of the impact ejected him from a 2014 BMW bike.

Emergency medical technicians transported Hester to Jamaica Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short while later. Officers claimed the patrol car had its flashing lights on when the accident took place.

The officer was in his cruiser when the collision took place. He sustained unspecified injuries to his back and neck. He was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Queens for emergency treatment.

Police are still investigating this accident.
