Remsen, NY (July 4, 2020) – On Friday, July 3, seven people were injured in a car accident that took place at an intersection in Remsen.
Police confirmed that 54-year-old Karen Seelman was headed south on NY-12 in her Toyota pickup truck and attempted to make a left turn onto Steuben Street. She allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way to a Buick Century traveling north on NY-12.
The driver of the Buick, identified as 25-year-old Theresa Leggett, was unable to avoid the collision. Her Buick lost control, spinning and striking a utility pole.
Leggett was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. A 4-year-old boy, a 5-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, and an eight-old boy in her vehicle were also hospitalized with internal injuries. Another 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with a fractured leg.
Seelman was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. She was then ticketed for failure to yield the right-of-way.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
