Ronkonkoma, NY (August 4, 2020) – Authorities have arrested a woman who fled the scene of a collision after she struck two young children on bicycles in Ronkonkoma. The incident took place alongside the Long Island Expressway service road at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday night, August 3rd.

According to officers, the children were riding bicycles along the shoulder of the roadway when they were hit by a vehicle near Old Nichols Road. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene and one of the children, a 9-year-old boy, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. He is currently listed in serious condition.

The second victim, a 12-year-old boy, was also taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. Authorities say a six-year-old boy was with the victims but was not struck during the collision.

The driver of the vehicle, Shannon Palmer, left the scene after the crash but was later located at her home in Hauppauge where she was placed under arrest. No further information has been reported.
