Newburgh, NY – John C. Peda Fatally Struck on Rt 17K

Newburgh, NY (January 23, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed as he walked along a rural highway in the town of Newburgh. On Friday, January 22nd.

A report from the New York State Police stated that, at about 11:15 p.m., a trooper had pulled over a car on Route 17K when he heard the accident happen behind him, and noticed a Nissan Rogue with front-end damage sitting on the opposite side of the street and a man lying on the ground in front of it.

The trooper immediately contacted Orange County 911 and administered CPR to the victim.  

Emergency Medical Services from the Town of Newburgh responded to the scene and took over life-saving measures.

The deceased victim, who has since been identified as 80-year-old John C. Peda, a resident of Kingston, was transported via ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short while later.

Driver impairment is not believed to be a factor in this accident.

This accident is under investigation by local law enforcement.
