Newport News, VA (March 15, 2023) – On March 13, emergency officials were called to the scene of an accident involving several vehicles that took place in the Newport News area.
At around 5:40 a.m., a total of three vehicles collided on Interstate 664 in Newport News. The incident blocked the southbound lanes of the road near mile marker four at the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT).
The Virginia State Police responded to the scene and closed off several lanes of the interstate near 35th Street as they worked to clear the scene.
State police and firefighters remained at the scene for nearly one and a half hours as they worked to clear the road.
An unknown number of people were transported to area hospitals for further medical care.
The incident remains under investigation.
