Nodaway County, MO (March 13, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on US-136, seven miles east of Maryville, left two drivers injured Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. and involved a Ford Explorer and a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling westbound on US-136 when the driver of the Chevrolet, an 18-year-old man from Ravenwood, slowed down to make a left-hand turn. The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 16-year-old female from Parnell, failed to yield and struck the rear of the pickup truck. The impact caused the Chevrolet to veer off the north side of the roadway, while the Ford came to rest in the westbound lanes.
Both drivers suffered injuries in the crash. They were transported by private vehicles to Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville for treatment. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene— the Ford by Shell’s and the Chevrolet by Kizer’s Towing.
The Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office and the Ravenwood Fire District assisted at the crash site as authorities investigated the collision.
Rear-End Accidents in Missouri
Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of crashes, often resulting from distracted driving, tailgating, or failing to anticipate traffic slowdowns. In this case, the Ford Explorer driver was unable to stop in time when the Chevrolet 2500 slowed to turn, leading to the impact.
Missouri law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance to allow time to react to sudden stops. Rear-end crashes can cause significant injuries, including whiplash, head trauma, and back injuries, even at lower speeds. While both individuals in this accident sustained minor injuries, the consequences of such crashes can be much more severe, particularly at higher speeds.
When involved in a rear-end collision, accident victims may face medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and insurance challenges. Seeking legal guidance can help ensure that injured parties receive the necessary support and compensation for their recovery.
