Norfolk, CT (October 26, 2024) – A fatal accident occurred on Friday evening, October 25 along West Greenwoods Road, resulting in one death and serious injuries to another individual. The incident took place when a pickup truck reportedly struck a utility pole, which was caused by a fallen tree.
Connecticut State Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. after reports of the crash. Upon arrival, they found that the impact had pulled down power lines, leading to two brush fires igniting on either side of the road. One fire covered over an acre, while the other was approximately three-quarters of an acre in size.
Emergency responders, including the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, worked diligently to extinguish the fires, which were brought under control by 9:30 p.m. Firefighters from several surrounding towns assisted in the effort, and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's forestry unit also responded to the scene.
Tragically, one passenger in the pickup truck was declared deceased at the scene, while another was airlifted by LIFE STAR to a local hospital with serious injuries. The fallen utility pole had crushed the pickup truck, exacerbating the situation.
