Norfolk, VA (September 17, 2025) – A crash involving a single vehicle occurred early Wednesday morning on Interstate 64 westbound near Exit 14B, resulting in injuries and significant emergency response activity in Norfolk. According to Norfolk City Fire and EMS Dispatch, the vehicle reportedly “collapsed,” causing injuries and blocking the far-left lane (lane 1).
The incident was initially dispatched as an eastbound event but was later corrected by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports, confirming the location on I-64 westbound in the vicinity of the Newtown Rd overpass, just before the 14B exit ramp. The crash occurred at approximately 6:33 a.m. local time and prompted a large-scale response involving Engine 4, Ladder 14, Medic 4, and TAC 6 units.
Upon arrival, first responders found at least one individual requiring medical assistance. While exact details on the condition and number of patients have not yet been released, medics confirmed the incident was being treated as an injury crash. Fire crews took control of the scene and established “264 West Command” to direct traffic and emergency coordination.
The impacted lane was temporarily closed while responders worked to stabilize the vehicle and assist the injured. Tow trucks were later called to remove the wreckage, and traffic was redirected until the scene was cleared.
