Fargo, ND (August 13, 2020) – A single-vehicle accident in which the driver was killed and a passenger was hospitalized took place in the city of Fargo on Wednesday, August 12th.
The driver has since been identified as 30-year-old George Cantu, a resident of Fargo.
As indicated in an online statement by local law enforcement officers from the city of Fargo, the car accident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. in the 400 block of 11th Avenue North, near the 4th Street North intersection and Horace Mann Elementary School.
On their arrival at the scene of the accident, Fargo police officers discovered that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, veered off of the roadway and crashed into a tree, the impact of which caused the vehicle to propel itself into a nearby yard where it finally came to a stop.
Emergency medical personnel who were dispatched to the site of the crash pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
His passenger, who has been identified by police as 28-year-old Summer Lone Dog, also a resident of Fargo, was taken via ambulance to a nearby medical facility for treatment of crash-related injuries that were classified as non-life-threatening.
As they are currently conducting a professional inquiry to determine cause and liability, crash investigators from the Fargo Police Department have declined to offer any additional details pertaining to the wreck or the circumstances surrounding it save to say that they have reason to believe that both alcohol and speed played an integral role.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. Our thoughts are with them and everyone that was affected by this tragedy.
