Ojai, CA (May 31, 2020) – A motorcycle rider who was killed in an accident on the Maricopa Highway on Monday, May 25th has been identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office as 35-year-old Wayne Ortman, a resident of Ventura.
According to local law enforcement, Ortman was riding a Honda CBR1000 in the southbound lanes of Maricopa Highway, near Los Padres National Forest, at around 10:30 a.m.
The accident occurred when the driver of a Subaru decided to change directions in the middle of the highway, getting into the northbound shoulder and swinging wide across the two-lane highway into the southbound shoulder.
Ortman, unable to evade the dangerous maneuver, crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle.
Emergency medical technicians were dispatched to the crash site to render medical aid. Ortman, however, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Paramedics also transported a 66-year-old female, the Subaru’s only passenger, to a local medical facility. Her injuries are classified as minor.
The Subaru’s driver, whose identity has not been released, also received minor injuries during the accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Wayne Ortman, at this time.
