Omaha, NE (September 18, 2023) – A bicycle truck accident on Saturday, September 16, 2023, resulted in the death of an Omaha man.

Officers reported to 72nd and Pratt Streets just after 6 p.m. following a crash.

A homemade motorized bicycle was hit by a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup.

The pickup, moving north, struck the westbound bike that had ignored a stop sign.

John Turpen, 45, the cyclist from Omaha, sustained severe head injuries.

Nebraska Medicine received him, but he succumbed after surgery. Turpen had not worn a helmet.

The investigation is still ongoing.
