Why Driveway Entry Crashes Can Be Especially Dangerous
Collisions involving vehicles entering a roadway from private drives often occur when drivers misjudge the speed or distance of oncoming traffic. These situations can leave little time for either driver to react.
Investigators typically examine sight distance, road speed, and angle of entry when analyzing these crashes. Driver-side impacts are often severe due to the limited protection on that side of a vehicle.
Even in rural or semi-rural areas, roadway design and visibility near driveways can play a significant role in crash outcomes. Evidence such as vehicle positions and roadway markings helps reconstruct how the collision developed.
