What Factors Are Common in Head-On Highway Collisions?
Head-on collisions on highways often occur when a vehicle crosses into the opposing lane of travel or loses control while traveling at high speeds. These crashes can result in severe consequences due to the combined speed of the two vehicles.
Common contributing factors may include driver distraction, fatigue, impairment, or failure to maintain lane position. Roadway conditions such as curves, limited visibility, or wet surfaces can also increase risk.
Investigators typically examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, and physical damage to understand how the collision occurred. They may also review seatbelt use, vehicle data, and witness accounts to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
