Parkersburg, WV (December 11, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Emerson Avenue near J.P. Henry’s restaurant early Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality. The accident occurred around 7:12 AM and involved several vehicles, leaving one driver dead and another severely injured.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Seth Young, a 2021 Chevrolet Sedan driver from Heath, Ohio, was traveling northbound on Emerson Avenue when he crossed the center line and collided with a 2010 Toyota Sedan driven by Christina Houser of St. Marys, WV. After the initial impact, Young’s vehicle continued into the southbound lanes, striking a 2020 Toyota SUV driven by Anita Cooper of Sandyville, WV, and a 2022 Toyota Sedan driven by McKenzee Buchanan of Spencer, WV.
Cooper and Houser were fortunate to have no apparent injuries, while Buchanan was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center with severe injuries. Unfortunately, Seth Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision also caused one of the vehicles to catch fire, becoming fully engulfed in flames. Emergency personnel from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Parkersburg Police and Fire Departments, Parkersburg Crime Scene Unit, and the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Due to the accident, both lanes on Emerson Avenue were shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the crash.
