Hit-and-Run Accidents in California
Hit-and-run accidents remain a serious issue on California highways, particularly along major routes like US-101 in the Petaluma area. These incidents not only cause physical harm but also create emotional and legal challenges for victims seeking justice and compensation.
Data from the California Office of Traffic Safety shows that hit-and-run crashes account for a significant portion of all traffic-related injuries in the state. Victims of these types of accidents often face steep medical costs, time away from work, and the added difficulty of tracking down liable parties.
When a driver flees the scene, injured individuals still have rights and may be eligible to seek compensation through uninsured motorist coverage or legal claims once the responsible party is located. Promptly documenting the scene, obtaining witness statements, and cooperating with law enforcement are critical steps after a hit-and-run.
Drivers are reminded to stay at the scene after any collision, no matter how minor, and to assist anyone injured while awaiting emergency responders.
