Petersburg, VA (January 30, 2021) – A truck collision caused one person to become injured on an interstate in the Dinwiddle area of Petersburg on January 29. At approximately 5:02 a.m., two tractor-trailers were involved in a collision on Interstate 85.
The crash happened approximately two miles north of Squirrel Level Road when a 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer and a 2007 International with a truck-mounted attenuator collided in the left lane of I-85. Reports indicate that the tractor-trailer was headed north in the right lane while the left lane was closed due to a mobile highway work project.
The Volvo drifted into the left lane and collided with the International, pushing it into the jersey wall. The Volvo then stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate.
The driver of the International, identified as a 54-year-old man, was injured in the accident. He was taken via ambulance from the scene of the crash to a nearby hospital in order to receive emergency medical treatment. His injuries were deemed non-life-threatening in nature.
No other injuries were reported to have resulted from the collision. A crash investigation is currently underway.

Also in 2013, more than 13,000 auto collisions occurred in Virginia due to speeding. Driver negligence is a serious issue in Virginia and across the United States, as it injures and takes the lives of hundreds of thousands of people per year.
Truck accidents in Virginia and across the United States happen more often than one might think. These accidents can cause debilitating injuries and loss due to the fact that most commercial trucks are about 20 to 30 times larger than the average sedan. When a smaller sedan is involved in an accident with a large semi, the results are often catastrophic.
