Pitt County, NC (October 22, 2024) – A tragic early morning accident on October 19 resulted in the deaths of three individuals in Pitt County. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) responded to the scene of a single-vehicle collision on US 13 near Ballards Crossroads Road at approximately 12:54 a.m.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2012 Toyota was traveling westbound on US 13 when it crossed the centerline. The vehicle overcorrected and veered off the road to the right, entering a ditch and a brick driveway before overturning. Unfortunately, the driver and both passengers were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, leading to their ejection from the vehicle.

Emergency responders from the Bell Arthur Fire Department were also dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they reported that the vehicle was engulfed in flames, complicating the rescue efforts.

Our hearts go out to the families and friends affected by this devastating accident.

Fatal Accidents in North Carolina

Fatal traffic accidents are a significant concern throughout North Carolina, with numerous incidents occurring each year. In recent years, the state has witnessed a troubling rise in fatalities resulting from vehicle collisions. Many of these tragic accidents are linked to factors such as impaired driving, speeding, and a lack of seatbelt use.

The consequences of fatal accidents extend far beyond the immediate loss of life. Families are left to cope with profound grief and emotional turmoil, often facing financial hardships as well. It is crucial for those affected by such tragedies to seek legal guidance to understand their rights and options for compensation.

Statistics indicate that a substantial percentage of fatal accidents involve individuals who were not wearing seatbelts. This highlights the importance of seatbelt use as a critical safety measure that can save lives. In North Carolina, the law mandates that all vehicle occupants wear seatbelts, and failure to do so can have serious repercussions in the event of an accident.
