Pooler, GA (March 12, 2025) – Two people were injured in a crash involving a Pooler police officer on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials. The accident occurred at the intersection of Pine Barren Rd and Long Leaf Cir.
Georgia State Patrol (GSP) responded to the scene to investigate. According to a GSP spokesperson, the police officer was responding to another traffic crash with emergency lights activated and attempted to pass a vehicle when the collision happened.
Reports indicate that as the officer attempted to pass, the other driver, operating a gold Mercury Marquis, tried to make a left turn. The police vehicle then struck the Marquis on the driver’s side. Emergency responders extricated both occupants from the car and transported them to a local hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
The Pooler police officer involved in the crash was uninjured. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine fault.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
Police-Involved Crashes in Georgia
Collisions involving emergency vehicles can be complex, as officers must navigate traffic safely while responding to incidents. Georgia law allows emergency responders to bypass certain traffic laws when using lights and sirens, but other drivers are also required to yield to oncoming emergency vehicles. Unfortunately, misjudgments or sudden movements can still result in accidents.
Victims of police-involved crashes may face medical expenses, lost wages, and difficulty navigating insurance claims. Because Georgia follows a fault-based system, determining liability is a crucial step in seeking compensation for injuries and damages. Legal guidance may be beneficial for those involved in accidents with emergency vehicles.
