Portland, OR (March 12, 2025) – A tragic collision in northwest Portland on Tuesday morning left one person dead and another seriously injured. The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. on Northwest Cornelius Pass Road, south of Northwest Skyline Boulevard.
According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), a southbound Subaru WRX lost control while navigating a corner and veered into the northbound lane. The Subaru then collided with a Kia Sportage, causing the Kia to go over a guardrail and down an embankment. A nearby Toyota Corolla was struck by debris but did not make direct contact with the other vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that 67-year-old Cindy Ann Crandall, of St. Helens, the driver of the Kia, tragically died at the scene. A 2-year-old boy who was in the vehicle with her was miraculously unharmed.
The driver of the Subaru was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the Toyota Corolla was not injured.
NW Cornelius Pass Road was closed for approximately six hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. OSP has not yet confirmed if speed, road conditions, or other factors contributed to the collision.
