Poughkeepsie, NY – Fire at Greenbriar Condominiums on South Rd (Route 9) Claims One Man’s Life

Poughkeepsie, NY (April 6, 2021) – A fire incident reported on Saturday evening claimed the life of one man in the Poughkeepsie area. At around 6:35 p.m., on April 3, emergency crews were requested at the scene of a fire on South Road (New York State Route 9).

Reports from authorities show that a fire broke out in the Greenbriar Condominiums during the evening hours. Crews with the Arlington Fire Department responded to the scene and located smoke coming from the sink of a unit. Firefighters inspected the building and found that the fire was coming from an adjacent apartment on the second floor.

Firefighters attempted to access the condo but were unable to do so initially due to items blocking the door. After a few minutes, firefighters were able to force their way into the unit and battle the blaze.

Inside the room, firefighters located a 60-year-old male with severe injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics while awaiting a helicopter for transport. After being placed in the ambulance, the man went into cardiac arrest. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was ultimately declared deceased from his injuries at 7:05 p.m.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. Our thoughts are with them and everyone that was affected by this tragedy.
