Puyallup, WA (December 9, 2024) - A tragic accident occurred on the evening of December 7, when a 26-year-old Tacoma mother was struck and killed while attempting to flag down help after her car broke down. The incident took place around 11 p.m. on South Meridian in Puyallup. According to police, the woman had been traveling with her two children, ages 4 and 6, when her vehicle broke down in a parking lot. While attempting to flag down passing motorists for assistance, she was hit by a 31-year-old man driving northbound.

The driver immediately called 911 to report the incident. He was evaluated by police at the scene and was not found to be intoxicated. Authorities confirmed that he was driving within the correct lanes at the time of the collision. However, the victim, wearing dark clothing, was difficult to see in the dimly lit area. Despite being transported to the hospital alive and conscious, the woman succumbed to her injuries about three hours later on Sunday morning.

While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, officers did issue the driver a ticket for operating his vehicle with a suspended license and without insurance.

We send our best wishes to the injured individuals. We hope they recover swiftly
