Queen Valley, AZ (December 26, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. 60 near milepost 215, east of Apache Junction, on Monday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old woman. Authorities from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that the crash happened around 1 p.m., near the intersection of Queen Valley Rd.
The victim, identified as Talaura Rhyann Frost of Snowflake, AZ, was a passenger in a white GMC pickup truck involved in the crash. According to DPS, a black Kia SUV had been stopped on the side of the road before turning into the path of the GMC pickup. The collision forced the pickup truck off the road and into a nearby wash. Frost was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of both vehicles sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The DPS Vehicular Crimes Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
U.S. 60 was closed throughout Monday afternoon as authorities conducted their investigation and worked to clear the scene. The road reopened early Tuesday morning.
Frost's family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with memorial expenses for her and her unborn child. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Fatal Vehicle Crashes in Arizona
Arizona roadways, particularly rural highways like U.S. 60, often see tragic accidents due to the high speeds and limited access points that increase collision risks. Intersections such as the one near milepost 215 are especially prone to incidents involving vehicles entering or leaving the main roadway.
Data from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) indicates that fatal crashes are more common on rural highways compared to urban roads, with many involving vehicles turning or merging improperly. Defensive driving and heightened awareness are crucial to minimizing such risks.
For families affected by fatal crashes, the emotional and financial toll can be overwhelming. Legal resources may be necessary to navigate insurance claims and potential liabilities while addressing funeral and other associated expenses.
