Line-of-Duty Injuries in Queens

4.03 Queens, NY - Four-Alarm Fire Traps, Seriously Injures Two Firefighters in Queens Village

An employee who is eligible to receive worker’s compensation benefits for an injury they sustained while on the job is prohibited from suing their employer for those same work-related injuries. New York firefighters who suffer injuries in the line of duty, however, are not eligible to collect workers’ compensation. Their hospital bills and lost income are handled by the city that employs them. In other words, because New York firefighters are not afforded the protections of worker’s compensation, they do have the right to bring a claim of personal injury against their employer for injuries they received during a line-of-duty accident in New York.
