Queens, NY (April 6, 2021) – A total of four civilians and five firefighters were injured after a massive fire tore through an apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon, April 6th. Authorities say that it happened on 34th Avenue in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens.

According to officials, an eight-alarm fire broke out inside the top floor of a six-story apartment building at approximately 1:00 p.m. Around 400 members of the Fire Department of New York arrived at the scene where multiple crews worked for hours to extinguish the blaze.

Authorities say that five firefighters suffered various injuries and at least three were hospitalized with burns. A total of four civilians were also injured in the incident but the severity of their conditions has not been reported.

At this time, the flames are believed to have spread so rapidly due to an open door to the apartment unit where the fire began. The events that caused the incident are under investigation.
