Queens, NY (July 7, 2023) – One person was killed, and a second person was arrested following a fatal drunk driving accident that took place in the Richmond Hill neighborhood.
According to reports provided by the New York Police Department, at around 235 a.m. on July 6, a New York City Department of Environmental Protection vehicle was driving in the area of Atlantic Avenue when it crashed into a Mercedes at the intersection of Lefferts Boulevard.
The impact of the crash caused the Mercedes to roll onto its side, ejecting a passenger from the vehicle.
The passenger, identified as a 38-year-old male, was severely injured and rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he passed away.
The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Errick Persaud, was transported to an area hospital. Authorities confirmed that he had a blood alcohol content level above 0.08. He was subsequently charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.08.
The incident is being investigated.
