Queens, NY – Update: Worker Dies After Fall onto Van Wyck Expy, Hit by Vehicle

Queens, NY (November 1, 2022) – An incident that was originally reported as a pedestrian accident on the Van Wyck Expressway has now been determined to be a fatal construction accident. It happened on Tuesday morning, November 1st, at Roosevelt Avenue in the Flushing area of Queens.

Authorities now say that a construction worker was performing duties on the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge when for uncertain reasons, he fell onto the Van Wyck Expressway below. The 34-year-old worker was then struck by an oncoming vehicle at around 10:15 a.m.

Emergency responders were called to the scene where they transported the worker to a local hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and no charges have been reported. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
