Redford Township, MI (April 21, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run crash took the life of a motorcyclist Sunday evening in Redford Township, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and the recovery of the suspected vehicle hours later in Detroit.
The deadly collision occurred just after 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Beech Daly Rd and Plymouth Rd. According to Redford Township Police, the motorcyclist was heading northbound on Beech Daly when a Cadillac traveling southbound attempted a left turn and collided with the motorcycle in the intersection.
Upon arrival, first responders found the motorcycle engulfed in flames and the rider lying on the ground nearby. Officers quickly pulled the victim away from the fire and rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived. The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Cadillac fled the scene immediately following the impact. However, within hours, the abandoned vehicle was located in Detroit. Investigators believe they have identified the individual behind the wheel at the time of the collision, though no arrests have been announced.
At this time, authorities say drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Redford Township Police Department at 313-387-2541 or reach out via email at jditzhazy@redfordpd.org.
Our deepest condolences are with the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist during this incredibly difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents and Hit-and-Run Collisions in Michigan
Motorcyclists remain among the most vulnerable road users in Michigan, and crashes involving larger vehicles—particularly those turning across traffic—continue to be a major cause of severe injuries and fatalities. The crash at Beech Daly and Plymouth Rd tragically exemplifies this risk, especially when visibility or driver awareness is lacking during turns.
In this case, the impact was catastrophic, leading not only to the loss of life but the added trauma of a vehicle fire and a fleeing driver. While officers acted swiftly to rescue the motorcyclist and begin lifesaving efforts, the violent nature of the crash was sadly insurmountable.
Left-turn collisions are one of the most common scenarios that lead to fatal motorcycle accidents, often due to drivers misjudging the speed or distance of an oncoming bike. The situation becomes more severe when the responsible driver flees the scene, compounding the tragedy and delaying justice and closure for victims' families.
Redford Township and the surrounding areas have seen a rising number of incidents involving hit-and-run behavior in recent years. In response, law enforcement has increased focus on community cooperation, surveillance technology, and cross-jurisdiction coordination—as seen in the recovery of the suspect’s vehicle in Detroit just hours after the crash.
For families who lose loved ones in such incidents, the grief is often accompanied by legal, emotional, and financial hardship. Accessing victim support services, counseling, and legal advocacy can be essential in navigating the aftermath of such a traumatic loss.
