Reynolds County, MO (March 13, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 21 and Highway V, two miles south of Centerville, left one driver with serious injuries Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. and involved a Toyota Corolla, a Chevrolet Silverado, and a Toyota 4Runner.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2024 Toyota 4Runner, a 65-year-old woman from Centerville, failed to yield, leading to a collision with a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The impact caused the Corolla to sustain extensive damage before it was struck again by a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.
The driver of the Corolla, a 33-year-old woman from Ellington, MO, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted by Air Evac to Mercy St. Louis for emergency treatment. The drivers of the Silverado and 4Runner did not report injuries and were able to remain at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Reynolds County Sheriff’s Department, Reynolds County Fire Department, Reynolds County First Responders, and Iron County EMS assisted at the crash site. The Corolla and 4Runner were towed from the scene at the owners’ requests, while the Silverado sustained moderate damage and was driven away.
Failure-to-Yield Accidents in Missouri
Failure-to-yield crashes are a leading cause of serious accidents at intersections. These incidents often occur when drivers misjudge the speed of oncoming vehicles or fail to come to a complete stop before entering a roadway. In this case, the driver of the Toyota 4Runner entered the path of the Toyota Corolla, resulting in a dangerous multi-vehicle collision.
Intersections, especially on rural highways like Highway 21, require drivers to exercise caution, particularly when navigating high-speed traffic. Yielding properly and following right-of-way laws help prevent accidents that can lead to severe injuries or fatalities.
Seat belt usage is another critical factor in injury severity. The injured driver in this crash was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have contributed to the extent of her injuries. Missouri law requires all drivers and passengers to buckle up for their safety, as seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of life-threatening injuries in crashes.
Victims of failure-to-yield accidents often face medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and lengthy recovery times. Seeking legal guidance can help injured individuals understand their rights and secure compensation for their losses.
