Rocky Mount, VA – Fatal Crash at Route 40 Interchange

Rocky Mount, VA (December 22, 2020) – One person lost their life in a fatal crash that occurred on Monday, December 21, on a roadway in Rocky Mount. The crash occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. at the Route 40 Interchange according to Virginia State Police. 

A driver, who remains unidentified, was killed after they collided with a dump truck on the Interchange for reasons still under investigation. The car that crashed into the dump truck, was identified as a Chevrolet Impala. 

The Impala was headed north at the time of the crash but took the Route 40 exit. The car then made a u-turn and got back onto the Route 220 North Ramp where it collided with the dump truck, officials stated. 

The crash’s impact forced both vehicles over the median into the southbound lanes of the roadway. The driver of the Impala was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. 

The incident remains under investigation at this time. The dump truck’s driver was not injured.
