Rossie, NY (February 20, 2023) – According to law enforcement in the town of Rossie, an elderly man tragically lost his life in a house fire that broke out on Sunday morning, February 19th. The incident was reported at approximately 8:08 a.m. in St Lawrence County.
Authorities with the New York State Police say that fire crews arrived to find a home on Butler Road entirely engulfed in flames. Crews worked to extinguish the blaze while EMTs were on site to assist any residents of the home who may have been injured.
Upon successfully knocking down the flames, firefighters located one man deceased inside the home. The victim has since been identified as 79-year-old Jay D. Marsaw of Hammond. No other injuries were reported.
Crews with the Hammond Fire Department and Oxbow Fire and Rescue assisted state police at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
